A South Korean-operated cargo ship that was damaged by a fire while transiting the Strait of Hormuz has safely arrived at a port in Dubai, the foreign ministry said Thursday.

The Panama-flagged bulk carrier HMM Namu, operated by South Korea's HMM Co., arrived at the Jebel Ali port in Dubai on Wednesday evening (local time), according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The 200,000-ton vessel had reported a fire in its engine room Tuesday while passing through the strategic waterway connecting the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman.

All 24 crew members, including South Korean, Indian, and Filipino nationals, are confirmed safe with no injuries reported.

The ministry said it has been in close coordination with the ship's operator and relevant authorities since the incident was first reported, dispatching officials from the South Korean Embassy in the UAE to assist.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway, with initial assessments suggesting an electrical malfunction in the engine room may have triggered the blaze.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most important oil shipping routes, with roughly 20 percent of global petroleum passing through the narrow passage daily.
